最近看到有一些留學的朋友在詢問如何找有關幫人帶小孩的工作。剛好我老婆去年曾找到類似的工作，並做了半年，幫英國人帶小孩。
離開前，小朋友和媽媽眼眶濕潤，捨不得我老婆離開。現在，我們都已經和他們變成好朋友了！下下週末就又要去他們家吃中飯聊天和小孩玩遊戲。他們夫妻倆說我們好像他們的弟妹似的，他們是音樂家，辦音樂會的時候，還會找我們一起去捧場欣賞呢～
至於，我老婆是怎麼在去年找到這份帶小孩的工作的呢？
當時，她正在語言學校上課，有很多她的同學都在打工，特別是來自歐洲的學生，幾乎都是 Au pairs，早上上課，下午回去寄宿家庭幫忙帶小孩，做一些簡單的家事，一週工作25小時，寄宿家庭提供免費食宿，每週還給65~90鎊不等的零用錢，語言學校的學費也減免40%。我老婆得知後也躍躍欲試，一來可以練習英文，二來還可以賺錢省學費，何樂不為？
以下就是當時她為了找工作所蒐集到的資料：
工作性質：
英國對於帶小孩的工作性質劃分得很清楚，主要分成五大類：
1. Nannies
Live in nannies:
Normally work an 11 hour day, Monday to Friday, together with 2 nights babysitting included. They can be in sole charge of the children and they perform “nursery duties” i.e. doing the children’s washing and ironing, keeping their rooms tidy, clearing away the toys, cooking for the children and clearing up in the kitchen afterwards. Most nannies will not do extra domestic duties, as they are primarily childcarers.
Live out nannies:
normally work a 10 hour day, Monday to Friday. They do not normally do babysitting unless this is agreed in advance, and they would need to be paid extra. They can be in sole charge of the children and they perform “nursery duties” i.e. doing the children’s washing and ironing, keeping their rooms tidy, clearing away the toys, cooking for the children and clearing up in the kitchen afterwards.
主要說來，無論是否住在雇主家，工作都是以帶小孩為主，另外幫忙整理小孩的房間，並煮飯給小孩吃。並不做其他家事(吸地板，插窗戶...)。
Live in Nannies 的週薪約 237~292 鎊，Live out Nannies 約 279~382 鎊。(2004年)
2. Babysitting
These are childcarers who look after children in the evenings. This is usually in the parents own home for a short period of time whilst they are out for the evening.
通常是父母臨時要出門的，或晚上有安排活動，需要有人幫忙留在家裏注意安全，不是每天晚上都要看小孩。這種工作很輕鬆，因為小孩大多七點半八點就上床睡覺了，Babysitter 只要坐在客廳，看書看電視都行。
時薪約5~7鎊。
3. Mothers Help
A Mother’s Help can be live in or live out, but they normally live in. You do the same sort of hours as a nanny however the difference between a mother’s help and a nanny is that as a mother’s help you do not yet have enough experience to be left in constant sole charge of children.
You normally work alongside the mother, caring for the children. You are not a cleaner, and so are not expected to do household duties, but you may be required to do light duties such as the family shopping , or loading and unloading the family washing. These duties should be discussed in advance with you.
這種工作不用作家事，也不會單獨和小孩相處，適合比較沒有經驗的年輕人。
薪水：Salaries start at £50-60 pw net for 16 year olds and rise to about £140 pw depending on age and experience.
4. Childminders
A Childminder is someone who looks after children in their own home. Whilst standards vary, lists or registered childminders are available from your local Children's Information Service. Childminders must be registered by Ofsted in England. Most childminders work in their own homes, sometimes with a partner or assistant. Childminders are self-employed and negotiate a fee with parents for the service they provide. Childminders must have had basic training and hold Public Liability Insurance.
Childminder 是需要執照而且要註冊的，通常是照顧小 baby，也不用做其他家事。對留學生來說，這種工作的難度比較高。
薪水比其他類型的工作高蠻多的，週薪約 600~800 鎊。
5. Au Pairs
These are foreign girls or boys who are able to assist the mother with household and childcare responsibilities but are usually not qualified to be left in sole charge of your children.
You should be aware, however, that an Au Pair should never be expected to take sole charge of children under the age of 3 years. Only a Nanny has sufficient skills and experience to take such responsibility.
這是我老婆帶小孩的類型。這種工作通常是外國學生在做，早上唸書，一週只做 25~30 小時，以帶小孩的工作為主，但是不負責小孩管教，也通常不帶三歲以下的小孩(帶小小孩需要專業，薪水也比較高)。也不需要負責打掃家裏。
周薪約 65~90 鎊，吃住免費。
我老婆沒有和他們一起住(當然是和我住囉)，一週工作25小時，週薪80鎊。工作就是接小孩下課，陪他們玩，偶而需要做飯給他們吃。
有些雇主會欺負外國學生不清楚英國當地行情，壓低薪水還要求做很多家事。應徵工作時，一定要問清楚工作內容範圍和責任，才不會受騙上當。
